Punjab Kings Names A Replacement As Dawid Malan Pulls Out Of IPL 2021

Dawid Malan won't feature for Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the resumption of IPL 2021 in the UAE. South African cricketer Aiden Markram has been roped in as his replacement.

England batsman Dawid Malan, who was expected to play for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), pulled out of the remaining part of the IPL 2021 to spend some time with his family.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, within an hour announced his replacement on its social media handle. The franchise announced South Africa opener Aiden Markram as Malan’s replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

“Ahead of the resumption of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings today announced the inclusion of South African cricketer Aiden Markram to the squad.

“Markram will replace Dawid Malan who is taking some time off to be with his family before the T20 World Cup and the Ashes Series,” PBKS announced on Saturday.

The former South Africa ODI skipper has accumulated 405 runs in 13 T20Is at a strike rate of 150.00. He can also contribute with the ball. He was recently added in South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad and has earned an IPL contract for the first time.

The 26-year old has played 57 T20s, in which he has accumulated 1403 runs and picked 8 wickets as well.

Punjab Kings will resume their season against Rajasthan Royals on September 21. They will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (September 25), Mumbai Indians (September 28), Kolkata Knight Riders (October 1), Royal Challengers Bangalore (October 3) and Chennai Super Kings (October 7), respectively. They are currently placed at the 6th spot in the points table with 3 wins from 8 matches.
