Ravi Shastri Blasts Rohit Sharma for Selecting 4 Spinners in T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Ravi Shastri has questioned the selection of four spinners in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has raised concerns about India’s spin-heavy squad selection for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

India opted for four spinners – Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal – in their 15-man squad. The Indian captain Rohit Sharma even claimed that he will soon reveal the reason behind this strategy.

However, with the opening match against Ireland set for June 5th at the Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York, known for its uneven bounce, Shastri believes the selection might be a cause for concern.

In a pre-match chat on Star Sports, Shastri remarked that India might have picked “too many spinners” in the squad. He pointed out that anyone who has watched the tournament so far would likely choose an additional fast bowler for the pitch conditions at the New York venue.

This raises questions about India’s bowling strategy for the upcoming matches. Will Rohit Sharma stick with their spin-heavy approach against Ireland, or will he opt for an extra pacer to exploit the uneven bounce?

Meanwhile, the much anticipated India versus Pakistan match will also be played at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York on 9th June.
