RCB vs GT: Who is Arshad Khan? The Left-Arm Pacer Who Took Virat Kohli’s Wicket in IPL 2025

Arshad Khan dismissed Virat Kohli for 7 from 6 balls.

Gujarat Titans’ left-arm fast bowler Arshad Khan made headlines after dismissing Virat Kohli cheaply in the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

While many fans may not be familiar with him, Arshad is not new to the IPL. He has previously played for Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants before being bought by Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The 26-year-old pacer from Madhya Pradesh has had an interesting journey in cricket. He first gained attention when Mumbai Indians signed him at his base price of INR 20 lakh ahead of IPL 2022.

However, he was ruled out for the entire season due to an injury. Despite this setback, MI retained him for IPL 2023, where he finally got his debut. He played six matches for MI, taking five wickets, but his economy rate of 13.41 was a concern.

Following an underwhelming season, MI released him, and he was later picked by Lucknow Super Giants as a backup bowler. He got his opportunity in IPL 2024 when LSG’s speedster Mayank Yadav suffered an injury.

Arshad was brought into the playing XI against Delhi Capitals, where he played a crucial knock of 20 off 16 balls and formed the highest-ever eighth-wicket partnership (73 runs) in IPL history alongside Ayush Badoni. However, his bowling in that match was not impressive, as he conceded 28 runs in three overs without taking a wicket.

Arshad’s cricketing journey has not been easy. His coach, Abdul Kalam, once revealed that he used to wake up at 3 AM and travel from Seoni to Jabalpur to pursue his cricketing dreams. Despite facing setbacks, he continued to push forward, and his hard work has now earned him a place in Gujarat Titans.

Now playing for GT in IPL 2025, Arshad is looking to make an impact with his left-arm pace. His dismissal of Virat Kohli is a big moment in his career, and Gujarat Titans will be hoping that he continues to deliver strong performances in the upcoming matches.
