Rishabh Pant Likely To Miss ODI World Cup And IPL 2023: Reports
Rishabh Pant is likely to be sidelined for more than six months.
India’s star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is likely to miss competitive cricket for an indefinite period, including IPL 2023 and the 50-overs World Cup after surviving a car crash on December 30.
The dreadful incident took place while he was driving from Delhi to Roorkee to surprise his mother on the new year. According to a report by Espncricinfo, the 25-year-old has torn all three key ligaments in his knee, two of which were reconstructed recently.
The report further added that Pant will miss competitive cricket for more than six months. Last week, he underwent surgery where the posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament were reconstructed.
The Uttarakhand batter is now slated to undergo a second surgery, six weeks later, where the anterior cruciate ligament will be reconstructed.
While doctors operating on Pant have delivered no final words on when will the left-hander be able to resume training, both the BCCI and selectors have determined that the southpaw will be sidelined for more than six months.
Rishabh Pant Not Named In India’s Squad for Australia Series
Pant, who last played for India in December hasn’t been named in India’s Test squad for the Australia series. The Ranchi keeper-batter Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat have been picked in the squad for the first half of the Test series.
Pant will also miss the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Australia’s star batter David Warner is expected to lead the team in his absence.
