Rohit Sharma Likely Out for First Test Against Australia Due to Personal Reasons – Report
Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the opening Test against Australia.
In a significant blow for Team India, captain Rohit Sharma is expected to miss one of the initial two Test matches against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The experienced batter is reportedly considering taking time off during the opening part of the series, which is scheduled for November-December 2024.
India’s cricketing schedule is packed, with a three-match Test series against New Zealand starting on October 22, followed by five Tests against Australia, beginning on November 22 in Perth. According to a PTI report, Rohit has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his possible absence due to a personal commitment.
Uncertainty Surrounds Rohit Sharma’s Availability
“There isn’t complete clarity regarding Rohit’s situation,” said a BCCI official, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “Rohit has hinted that he might have to skip either the first or second Test, depending on whether his personal issue is resolved in time.”
The board is expected to receive more updates in the coming days. Should the situation get sorted before the series opener, Rohit may be available for all five matches. However, uncertainty persists, and India could find themselves in need of a backup opener for the challenging Australian tour.
Potential Opening Options for India
Given the lack of established alternatives, India might turn to Ruturaj Gaikwad or Abhimanyu Easwaran as potential replacements for the Australia series. Both are talented, but the absence of an experienced opener like Rohit could pose a challenge in the highly-anticipated series.
