Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya? – Sanjay Manjrekar vs Bangar Over Who Deserves Credit for MI’s Win

Sanjay Manjrekar and Bangar had a heated debate over who deserves credit for Mumbai Indians' win — Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya.

Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to register their second win of the IPL 2025 season. However, after the match, there was debate on social media over who should get the credit for the victory — captain Hardik Pandya or former skipper Rohit Sharma.

Many fans and experts praised Rohit Sharma for giving a smart suggestion from the dugout during the second innings. Karun Nair had given Delhi a strong start, but Rohit’s input changed the momentum. After a discussion with Mahela Jayawardene and Paras Mhambrey, Rohit signalled Hardik to bring in Karn Sharma.

Karn came into the attack and dismissed Tristan Stubbs on the third ball of his first over. He then removed KL Rahul in his next over, triggering a collapse in Delhi’s chase. They went from cruising to struggling, eventually getting all out for 193.

Sanjay Manjrekar Says Credit Belongs to Hardik Pandya

After the game, former India coach Sanjay Bangar credited Rohit for his role in the turnaround. However, Sanjay Manjrekar strongly disagreed. He said it’s not fair to give Rohit the credit just because he gave a suggestion.

Manjrekar said that it was Hardik Pandya who took the final call on the field. If the move had failed, Hardik would have been blamed, not Rohit. So if it worked, the credit should also go to Hardik.

“It is very easy to give advice from the dugout, but the captain takes the pressure and makes the call. This win was important for Hardik. It would be unfair to give credit to Rohit Sharma for Mumbai’s win,” Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

Mumbai Indians will next play Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on Thursday.
