Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruled Out of IPL 2025, MS Dhoni to Take Over CSK Captaincy

MS Dhoni will lead CSK in the reaming of IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a major blow in the middle of IPL 2025. Their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an elbow fracture. Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the news and announced that MS Dhoni will lead the team for the rest of the season.

This injury has come at a time when CSK are already struggling in the league. Gaikwad, who took over the captaincy from Dhoni ahead of the 2024 edition, was trying to rebuild the team after a rough start in the ongoing season. Now, with him out, the team is once again turning to their most trusted leader.

Stephen Fleming Confirms Dhoni’s Return as Captain

In a brief statement, Stephen Fleming said, “Ruturaj Gaikwad has a fracture on his elbow and is ruled out of the IPL. MS Dhoni will take over as captain for the remaining tournament.”

MS Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj ahead of the 2024 season to help the team plan for the future. However, with Gaikwad out, Dhoni is once again set to guide the team from the front.

CSK’s Season in Trouble

Chennai Super Kings have had a tough IPL 2025 so far. With four losses from five matches, the team is currently placed near the bottom of the points table. The injury to Gaikwad adds to their problems, both on the field and in the leadership group.

MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket years ago, continues to be the heart of the CSK squad. While this was supposed to be the beginning of a new era under Gaikwad, the team will now once again rely on the experience and calm of Dhoni.
