SA20: Rashid Khan will lead MI Cape Town in the inaugural season of South Africa T20 League

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been appointed as captain of MI Cape Town for the inaugural season of Cricket South Africa T20 League, also known as SA20 on Friday, December 2.

The Cape Town-based franchise has given the captaincy role to the 24-year-old, who is one of the overseas player MI Cape Town signed ahead ahead of the auction.

Rashid, who had a stunning IPL 2022 season, helping Gujarat Titans lift the title in their first attempt, has played several franchise leagues across the world.

The legendary spinner will work closely with head coach Simon Katich, batting coach Hashim Amla, and fielding coach James Pamment to make MI Cape Town as successful as Mumbai Indians of Indian Premier League.

In another set of develop, MI Emirates have appointed Kieron Pollard as the captain for the inaugural edition of the UAE’S International League T20.

The veteran West Indies’ all-rounder has been a great leader in the shortest format of the game. He led Mumbai Indians in IPL numerous times in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

He has also led West Indies in the past too so the captaincy is not something entirely new to him. Speaking on the new developments, here’s what Mr. Akash M. Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, said:

“We’re extremely pleased to announce our captains for our extended MI Global one family for the cricketing season 2023. We have an amazing mix of talent, experience, and passion in both our captains.”

“I’m convinced that Polly and Rashid will take forward the MI ethos and MI brand of cricket. Both will work with our excellent coaching teams to infuse the MI spirit in MI Emirates and MI Cape Town and win the hearts of cricket fans in UAE and South Africa.”
