‘Sab Kitna Aage Nikal Gaye’: Prithvi Shaw’s Career Compared to Kambli’s Downfall

Prithvi Shaw, once ahead of his peers, is now being urged to revive his career and avoid the same downfall as Vinod Kambli.

In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, anchor and writer Tanay Tiwari opened up about Prithvi Shaw’s turbulent cricket journey. Once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shaw’s career has taken a dip, and Tiwari didn’t shy away from pointing out the harsh truths behind his fall.

Tiwari drew comparisons between Shaw and former India batter Vinod Kambli—both incredibly talented, both celebrated early, but both facing a decline too soon.

“Pretty similar trajectories. I hope he doesn’t go down that road. I hope he stages a comeback,” he said, referring to the heartbreaking career arc of Kambli, who despite his immense talent, failed to reach the heights expected of him.

Tiwari spoke about how Shaw, once a rising star, seems to have lost his way somewhere between his U19 World Cup win in 2018 and now.

“He made his debut before all three – Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, and Riyan Parag. Scored a century on debut. And now, those guys are looking at him and saying, ‘Dekh yaar, kitna aage nikal gaya’,” Tiwari said.

Shaw’s early success had put him on a fast track — he captained India’s U19 team to a World Cup title, scored big runs in IPL, and smashed a century on Test debut. Everything was going right. But over the years, things started falling apart. Tiwari pointed out that while Shaw’s skills remained intact, his fitness and discipline took a hit.

“Somewhere between that World Cup and now, he just lost track. I don’t know where, what. But he just fell downhill. The body started showing signs – he is not as fit as he was,” Tiwari noted.

He also mentioned that Shaw’s attitude within team environments may have added to the downfall.

“Even within the camp, you heard reports that he is not attending fielding practice, not doing what the team demanded,” Tiwari added. Despite all this, he still hopes Shaw makes a return. “He still has time. Get up, do it.”

As fans and critics continue to debate his future, the comparisons with Kambli loom large. The message is clear: talent alone is not enough. It needs to be backed with discipline, consistency, and hard work — something Shaw must embrace if he wants to change the direction of his story.
