Scott Styris Slams KKR for Letting Go of Shubman Gill: Biggest Blunder in IPL History

Scott Styris, former New Zealand cricketer, labels Kolkata Knight Riders' decision to release Shubman Gill as IPL's worst move ever, with unparalleled catastrophic consequences.

Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris feels that the Kolkata Knight Riders’ decision to let go of Shubman Gill stands as the most disastrous move made by any franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League.

He stated that the decision of Royal Challengers Bangalore to release KL Rahul still stands as the biggest blunder made by any franchise.

Shubman Gill has been enjoying a phenomenal run in the ongoing IPL 2023 season. With a staggering 851 runs in 16 matches, he is currently the tournament’s leading run-scorer.

His consistent contributions as an opener for the Gujarat Titans have been instrumental in the team’s success, with the star batter notching up three splendid centuries in the season already. Here’s what Styris told JioCinema:

“I still believe that his release from KKR will go down as the biggest blunder a franchise has made. The only other one was KL Rahul from RCB. However, there is an age advantage here. Gill is still a very young man, he has got a lot of growth in his game.”

Styris went on to add that the Punjab batter would become the “backbone” of the Indian team.

“He can not only be the star for this GT star, especially after the next World Cup, he will be the backbone of this Indian side. And I think he will embrace that.”

Gill looks like a young Virat Kohli: Scott Styris

Styris showered accolades on Gill for successfully capitalising on his promising starts and fine-tuning his approach to the game. He further pointed out that Gill looks like young Virat Kohli as he controls his game well.

“We have seen the evolution of Baby GOAT, from his KKR days to now in GT. He was getting starts, and out of nowhere, he would get out. But he is converting those. He has made the adjustments to his game.”

“He has taken the responsibility, he is happy to be the mainstay of this batting line-up. And he is looking like Virat Kohli back in the day as well, in the sense that he is in total control of his game. He is not having to thrash the ball or go after the bowling. He just hits the bad ball,” Styris added.
