Shubman Gill Sent Home from T20 World Cup Over Disciplinary Concerns? Get the Facts Here
Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return to home after India vs Canada match in T20 World Cup 2024.

After securing a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s, reports indicate that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return to India after the team’s final group stage match against Canada on June 15th.
Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed were included as reserve players for the tournament. The BCCI decided to bring these reserves along with the main squad to avoid any delays in case replacements were needed.
With the group stage ending for India, Shubman Gill, a reserve opener, and Avesh Khan, a pacer, are expected to head back to India. India has another backup opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, ready for the Super 8s.
Since the next matches will be played in the West Indies, where spin bowlers are more effective, India feels confident with the four pacers they have, including Hardik Pandya.
This makes Avesh Khan’s presence less critical, so he will return with Gill.
Khaleel Ahmed, a left-arm pacer, will stay with the team for a variety during practice sessions. Rinku Singh is also expected to remain with the team for the rest of the T20 World Cup.
No Disciplinary Issues on Shubman Gill
Since the news of Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan’s return after the Canada match, rumours have swirled that Shubman Gill’s departure is due to disciplinary actions. However, these rumours are entirely unfounded.
The duo’s return is simply because India has sufficient backups – an extra batter and pacer. The BCCI wants them to return home and begin preparations for upcoming assignments following the T20 World Cup.
