Team India Suffers Big Blow as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2023

Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul had solidified their roles as India's number four and number five ODI batters

The injury concerns for Team India continue, with recent reports indicating that both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, essential cogs in India’s middle order for ODIs, won’t be able to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 as they are unlikely to be fit in time for the marquee tournament.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Asia Cup 2023 will be too soon for both batters as they continue to battle injuries. While Shreyas Iyer, who was set to lead Kolkata Knight Riders missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, KL Rahul ruled out of the last leg of the tournament.

Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul had solidified their roles as India’s number four and number five ODI batters, becoming the backbone of the team. On numerous occasions, they showcased their batting prowess by rescuing India from difficult situations.

However, now with both players unavailable for the mega event, India faces a daunting task of identifying suitable replacements for them in the playing XI. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan stands as the only practical choice for the wicketkeeper’s role in the absence of Rahul.
