‘That’s Not What Rohit Wants’ – Doubts Arise Over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20 World Cup Selection
Yashasvi Jaiswal has managed to score just 39 runs from four matches he played in IPL 2024 so far.
As the T20 World Cup 2024 draws nearer, Team India grapples with a major concern as Yashasvi Jaiswal, slated to partner Rohit Sharma at the top of the order, struggles to find form in the ongoing IPL 2024.
Across the four matches played by Rajasthan Royals in the tournament, Yashasvi Jaiswal has only mustered 39 runs, visibly struggling to execute his shots effectively.
Amidst discussions about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form, two former cricketers appear split on Rohit Sharma’s inclinations for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Wasim Jaffer and Mitchell McClenaghan are at loggerheads over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s IPL 2024 form. Jaffer wants Jaiswal to take time, while McClenaghan’s betting on Rohit Sharma wanting some attacking flair from his partner before the T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off.
“He needs to give himself a little bit of time, try and play conventional cricket at the start. Get himself set because the other guy at the end is Jos Buttler. You can afford to take time. It looks like, from the 3-4 games that he has played, he is taking too many risky options. When your time is not right, sometimes you can’t hold on to it,” Wasim Jaffer told Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, McClenaghan believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal should start playing attacking cricket, something he is known for, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
“That’s (playing cautiously) not what we would be looking for at the World Cup. That’s not what Rohit Sharma wants from his top-order batters. He wants them to take positive options, he wants them to be aggressive, he’s happy with a 30 off 15, and in that role, he is not looking for significant scores,” McClenaghan added.
