“They Treat IPL Like Holiday” – Virender Sehwag Slams Glenn Maxwell & Liam Livingstone

Virender Sehwag slammed Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone, saying they treat the IPL like a holiday and lack the hunger to perform.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has come down heavily on Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone for their poor form in IPL 2025. He alleged that both foreign players are not taking the tournament seriously and are only here to enjoy a holiday.

The 37th match of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is being played at Mullanpur Stadium on Sunday, April 20. Interestingly, both Liam Livingstone and Glenn Maxwell were not part of the playing XI for their respective teams in this match.

According to Sehwag, he doesn’t see the desire to win or the passion to perform in these players. He said that Maxwell and Livingstone just come to the IPL, enjoy the time, and leave. There is no responsibility towards the team.

“I think their hunger has been satiated. That’s why they come here to celebrate the holidays. They don’t feel like they have to win matches for the team or contribute to the trophy,” Sehwag said while speaking to Cricbuzz.

Liam Livingstone was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹8.75 crore in the IPL 2024 mega auction. He started the season well with 15* in the first match and scored a half-century against Gujarat Titans in RCB’s third game. However, since then, his form has dipped. He has managed only 87 runs in seven matches and taken two wickets.

Glenn Maxwell too is having a forgettable season. His best score so far is 30 off 21 balls against Rajasthan Royals. In the rest of the games, he has failed to cross double digits. In one of the recent matches, he was dismissed for just seven runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Fans and experts have started questioning his intent and consistency.

Sehwag further added that many foreign players in the past had the urge to win matches and the trophy. But he doesn’t see that same attitude in Maxwell and Livingstone.

“They just talk about winning but don’t perform. I have spent time with many overseas players who wanted to win the tournament. I don’t see that mindset in them,” Sehwag said.

He also shared a story about David Miller when he was with Punjab. Sehwag recalled how Miller used to practice on turning tracks in Punjab to prepare for South Africa’s upcoming tour of India.

“David Miller used to get turning pitches prepared in Punjab nets. He used to practice with spinners so he could get used to Indian conditions. He was focused on improving himself,” Sehwag added.

Through these comments, Sehwag has sent a strong message to overseas players—IPL is not a vacation spot, it’s a professional league where fans expect performance, not excuses.
