Twitter Reactions: Evin Lewis Ton Carries West Indies To Series Win

West Indies defeated Sri Lanka in the second ODI on Friday. Evin Lewis scored his fourth ODI century in the match.

West Indies opener Evin Lewis smashed his fourth One-Day International (ODI) hundred to guide his team to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Friday. With this win, the West Indies also earned a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Lewis struck eight boundaries and four sixes in his 103, but fell five balls after bringing up his ton, prompting a mini Windies wobble.

While chasing 274 to win, the hosts got off to a brilliant start as the West Indies built a fine platform as Lewis shared in a 192-run opening stand with Shai Hope, who followed up his century in the series opener with a score of 84.

A middle order slump which saw the home side slip to 233-4 when captain Kieron Pollard was out in the 46th over put late pressure on the West Indies. But Pooran made an unbeaten 35 from 38 balls to lead his team home in the final over in the West Indies’ highest successful ODI run chase against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, but the decision didn’t go in their favor as they collapsed to 50/3 in the ninth over. However, Danushka Gunthilaka came to the rescue and smashed a brilliant 96 to take his side up to a competitive score.

Gunathilaka seemed to have been wronged when he was given out for obstructing the field in the first ODI which the West Indies won by eight wickets.

He batted superbly on Friday, re-establishing the Sri Lanka innings in a partnership of exactly 100 for the fourth wicket with Dinesh Chandimal, who made 71.

The final ODI is at the same venue on Sunday.
