Virat Kohli Should Change His Mindset – Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar opened up on Virat Kohli’s struggles in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Virat Kohli’s struggles continue in the T20 World Cup 2024, with two low scores in the first two matches. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has some advice for the star batter – revert to his old batting style.

Sanjay Manjrekar, known for his outspoken commentary, believes Virat Kohli‘s focus on strike rate might be hindering him. This comes after Kohli worked on his scoring rate during IPL 2024 after severe criticism.

Here’s what Sanjay Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo:

“The problem with Virat Kohli is that there has been a lot of talk about his strike rate over the last two years, and he completely changed that during this IPL season. His strike rate had reached 150, although others had almost 200, but that is a different topic.”

“He probably must have come to the T20 World Cup with that same mindset, but given the pitches, the old Virat Kohli would have been much better. So, I feel someone should tell him to bring back that earlier version of himself and then change again when the pitches become flat,” he added.

Manjrekar feels Kohli is carrying the aggressive mindset from the IPL into the World Cup, which isn’t ideal for the slower wickets in the USA. He suggests Kohli adapt his approach based on the conditions.

Just a few days ago, Manjrekar took a dig at the Indian batting star Virat Kohli while praising the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, saying the media is obsessed with Kohli.

With pressure mounting after two disappointing outings, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli as India takes on the USA on Wednesday. Going forward in the Super 8, it will be crucial for him to return to his batting form.
