Virat Kohli’s Childhood Coach Opposes Gautam Gambhir for India Head Coach, Recommends Another Player
Rajkumar Sharma, the childhood coach of Virat Kohli wants MS Dhoni to become India’s next head coach.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently opened applications for the new head coach position, as Rahul Dravid’s tenure is set to end after the T20 World Cup 2024.
According to several reports, Gautam Gambhir is currently the frontrunner for the role, with the BCCI actively trying to convince him. Gambhir recently led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title as a mentor in his first season.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar Sharma, the childhood coach of Virat Kohli, has different views and advocates for MS Dhoni to take up the role of head coach. Sharma believes Dhoni, having won three ICC trophies with Team India, would command respect in the dressing room.
Here’s what Rajkumar Sharma told India News:
“MS Dhoni is the best pick as Team India’s head coach. He has played a lot of cricket and won big tournaments. Dhoni will have more respect in the dressing room.”
However, it is highly unlikely that MS Dhoni will accept the offer, as he has distanced himself from the national team since his retirement from international cricket. He was the mentor for Team India during the T20 World Cup 2021, in which India did not manage to reach the semifinals.
