Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana stole the show with his exceptional fielding during his team’s two-wicket loss to Bangladesh in their group stage match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas on Saturday, June 8th.
It all happened in the 17th over when Shakib Al Hasan, the experienced Bangladesh all-rounder, miscued a short delivery from Matheesha Pathirana. The ball went towards the deep third region, where Theekshana was positioned.
Despite being slightly off-guard, the 23-year-old Sri Lankan spinner showcased phenomenal agility. With a remarkable leap forward, he managed to grab the ball just inches above the ground, completing a sensational catch.
Although Theekshana’s brilliance rekindled Sri Lanka’s hopes, the damage from earlier in the innings proved too much to overcome. Bangladesh eventually secured a close victory with two wickets remaining.
