In the final of the Asia Cup 2023, while bowling only his second over of the day, Siraj dismissed opener Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva, reducing Sri Lanka to 12/5 after four overs. Sri Lanka had won the toss and opted to bowl first.

With this, Mohammad Siraj becomes the first Indian pacer to pick 4 wickets in a single over in international cricket.

Siraj’s first breakthrough came as he removed opener Pathum Nissanka, thanks to an exceptional catch by Ravindra Jadeja stationed at backward point. He then sent Sadeera Samarawickrama packing with a leg-before-wicket dismissal on the third ball of his over. On the very next delivery, Siraj tempted Charith Asalanka to drive the ball straight in the hands of Ishan Kishan.

Following a boundary in the penultimate ball of the over, Siraj then bounced back brilliantly as Dhananjaya de Silva was caught behind, plunging Sri Lanka to a precarious 12 for 5. He returned in the fifth over to dismiss Sri Lanka’s skipper, Dasun Shanaka, sealing his first-ever five-wicket haul in ODIs.
