Punjab Kings, after consecutive losses bounced back and played their best game to beat the high flying Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Rahul’s 91 off just 57 deliveries propelled the score to 179 for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs for the Punjab Kings who batted first. He also is leading the race for the orange cap now with 331 runs in 7 games.
Rahul could have got to his century if Punjab had wickets in hand but they lost a cluster of wickets in the middle overs after a good start. He helped the team get through the tough phase and formed an important partnership alongside Harpreet Brar with 61 runs for the sixth wicket.
Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first. Punjab Kings made three changes to their squad as Prabhsimran Singh played his first game of the season in place of the injured Mayank Agarwal but the star of the show with the bat was skipper KL Rahul, who smashed 91 runs from 57 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
The moment of the day came when Rahul reached his half century and the Punjab team management was seen covering their ears with the fingers as if to drown out the noise celebration which has been done by KL Rahul earlier this year against England after scoring a century during the second ODI at Pune.

As far as the game is concerned, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost it by 34 runs after being asked to chase 180 in 20 overs. The RCB top three – Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli, and Rajat Patidar – struggled for proper timing and placement, as they could muster only 62/1 at the 10-over mark.
Their inning fell apart sooner than anyone would have expected, as Harpreet Brar, playing in his first match this season, pocketed the wickets of Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers in a space of 7 deliveries, effectively ending RCB’s challenge.
RCB’s next match is against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, May 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
