Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey took a brilliant one-handed catch at mid-on to dismiss England opener Phil Salt during the Champions Trophy 2025 match in Lahore on February 22.
Alex Carey’s Spectacular Effort
Australia had chosen to bowl first but had an inexperienced pace attack as Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc were not playing. Spencer Johnson started the innings but conceded 12 runs in the first over. Left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis then came in to bowl.
Salt, batting on 10 off 5 balls, faced a full-length delivery in the middle. He tried to hit the ball over the on-side but didn’t time it well. The ball was still moving fast, but Carey, stationed at mid-on, reacted quickly. He ran to his right, dived, and took a stunning one-handed catch, leaving the English batter surprised.

Carey Playing as a Specialist Batter
Carey is not wicketkeeping in this match, as Josh Inglis has taken the gloves. This is only the fourth time in his 78-match ODI career that he is not behind the stumps. Inglis was Australia’s wicketkeeper in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup last year, while Carey played just one match in the 50-over World Cup.
