VEL vs TRL: Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers defeated Mithali Raj’s Velocity by 9 wickets in the second match of the Women’s T20 Challenge. The Trailblazers won the match in just 47 balls. This is the Trailblazers’ first win against Velocity.

Winning the toss in the match played in Sharjah, Velocity gave the target of 48 runs. In response, the Trailblazers won the match by scoring 49 runs in 7.5 overs at the loss of one wicket. Deandra Dottin played the most unbeaten innings of 29 runs. Richa Ghosh remained unbeaten after scoring 13 runs.

Mandhana Departs Early

Trailblazers skipper Smriti Mandhana could not do anything special in this match. Mandhana could only score 6 runs. She faced 9 balls, but could not hit a single boundary. She was dismissed by Leigh Kasperek.

Velocity Scored The Smallest Score of The Tournament

Velocity was reduced to 47 runs in 15.1 overs. This is the shortest score of the Women’s T20 Challenge. Earlier the Trailblazers had scored 112 for 6 against Velocity last year in Jaipur in which Velocity won the match by 3 wickets.

The dominance of Trailblazers’ Bowler

Trailblazers’ bowlers from the beginning, giving Velocity’s batsmen no chance to hit a shot. Sophie Ecclestone got 4 wickets, Jhulan Goswami-Rajeshwari Gayakwad 2-2 and Deepti Sharma got one wicket. Ecclestone, Gayakwad and Deepti also bowl one maiden each. Shefali Verma scored the maximum 13 runs for Velocity. At the same time, Shikha Pandey was dismissed for 10 runs.

Half Team Out in The Power-Play

Shefali Verma (13) was dismissed by Jhulan Goswami. At the same time, captain Mithali Raj (1) and Veda Krishnamurthy (0) were dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone on consecutive balls. Opener Danni Wyatt also did not lasts much on the crease and became Jhulan’s second hunt on a personal score of 3 runs. After this, Sushma Verma could score only one run and Sophie became Ecclestone’s third wicket.

Gayakwad Dismissed Luus and Dibyadarshini

Sune Luus scored 4 runs and Rajeshwari was out on Gayakwad’s ball. Gayakwad showed the path of the pavilion to Ms Dibyadarshini on the next ball. Dibyadarshini could not score even a single run. After this, Shikha Pandey was run out after scoring 10 runs.

Tough to Make a Comeback After 7 Months

During the toss, Trailblazers captain Smriti Mandhana said that “we are very happy after completing the quarantine period. It was difficult for us to return after 7 months. We were waiting for the match. Now we are quite balanced. Hopefully, we play better.”
