‘Would Be Wonderful to Win ICC Titles’ – Justin Langer Opens Up on Head Coaching Team India

Justin Langer, however, is hesitant to take up such a big responsibility.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is searching for a new head coach after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends following the T20 World Cup 2024. Among the names thrown around was Justin Langer, but the former Australian cricketer has dismissed those rumours.

Langer, currently leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, recently addressed the possibility of coaching India. He acknowledged the immense challenge and allure of the position, stating:

“It would almost be the biggest job in cricket… It would be a great challenge, great fun… a wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles.” However, he emphasized that “the timing has gotta be right.”

This suggests Langer isn’t entirely opposed to coaching Team India in the future. However, with a demanding four-year stint as Australia’s head coach behind him, he seems hesitant to jump back into such a high-pressure role immediately.

Justin Langer’s LSG finished the IPL 2024 season at number six, failing to qualify for the playoffs. Whether his coaching contract with the franchise will be extended for the next season remains to be seen.
