WPL 2023: Controversy Erupts As Deandra Dottin Denies Gujarat Giants’ Injury Claims

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 experiences its first controversy as West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin takes to social media to clarify that she is not injured. This comes after Gujarat Giants announced that she was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

Gujarat Giants issued a statement on Friday evening, confirming that Kimberley Garth of Australia has been signed up to replace Dottin in the tournament. Here’s what they said in the statement: 

“The Adani Gujarat Giants have had to call for a replacement player just before the start of the inaugural edition of the 2023 Women’s Premier League.”

Countering all rumours regarding her injuries, the West Indian tweeted the following statement: 

“I really appreciate all the messages but truth be told I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you.”  

As of yet, Gujarat Giants have not provided any explanation, and it remains to be seen how they will react to this pre-tournament controversy. 

Meanwhile, fans are expressing their disappointment with the franchise and demanding an explanation for their actions.

The tournament will kick off with a match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. Gujarat Giants, owned by the Adani Group, will be captained by Beth Mooney, while Harmanpreet Kaur will lead Mumbai Indians.
