UP Warriorz Women defeated Delhi Capitals Women by 5 wickets in the 8th match of the WPL 2025.
UP Warriorz finally registered their first win of the season with a commanding 33-run victory over Delhi Capitals. After losing their first two games, they put up a strong fight with both bat and ball. Batting first, UPW posted 177/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to a blistering knock from Chinelle Henry, who smashed 62 runs off just 23 balls.
The top order struggled, but Henry’s power-hitting and a few handy contributions helped UPW reach a competitive total. Jess Jonassen was the standout bowler for DCW, taking 4 wickets for 31 runs.
In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a shaky start, losing Meg Lanning early. Jemimah Rodrigues kept them in the hunt with a brilliant 56 off 35 balls, but she didn’t get enough support from the other batters.
Shafali Verma played a slow knock of 24 runs, and apart from Niki Prasad’s quick 18 off 10 balls, the lower order couldn’t contribute much. The pressure kept building, and DC lost wickets in clusters, collapsing from 111/5 to 144 all out in 19.3 overs.
Grace Harris was the star with the ball for UPW, picking up four wickets in just 2.3 overs, including a hat-trick in the final over to wrap up the game. Kranti Goud also impressed, claiming 4 wickets for 25 runs in her four-over spell.
Their combined efforts ensured DC never got close to the target, despite Jemimah’s fighting knock. Deepti Sharma also chipped in with one wicket, maintaining a tight economy.
This win lifts UP Warriorz off the bottom of the table and gives them momentum going forward in the tournament. For Delhi Capitals, it was a disappointing outing as they failed to chase down a gettable total.
