Priya Mishra’s brilliant spell helped Gujarat Giants control UP Warriorz, restricting them to 143/8 in their 20 overs in the third match of WPL 2025 at Kotambi Stadium. The leg-spinner picked 3 wickets for just 25 runs, dismantling the middle order of the Warriorz.
UP Warriorz Struggle to Build a Big Total
UP Warriorz got off to a decent start with Kiran Prabhu Navgire hitting three boundaries in the first two overs. However, Gujarat Giants struck back as Deandra Dottin trapped Kiran LBW, and captain Ashleigh Gardner bowled Vrinda Dinesh cheaply.
With two quick wickets, the Warriorz needed a strong partnership. Captain Deepti Sharma and wicketkeeper Uma Chetry provided stability, adding 51 runs for the third wicket. Deepti used sweeps and powerful punches to find boundaries, while Chetry played some elegant shots down the ground.

Just when UP Warriorz looked settled, Gujarat Giants fought back. Deandra Dottin dismissed Uma Chetry in the 10th over, leading to a major collapse.
Priya Mishra took center stage in the middle overs. She trapped Tahlia McGrath LBW for a duck with a well-disguised googly. She then bowled Grace Harris with another wrong’un. Her final blow came when Deepti Sharma mistimed a slog, and Ashleigh Gardner took a diving catch at mid-off.
With these three crucial wickets, Priya broke the backbone of UP Warriorz’ innings.
Late Fightback by Alana King and Saima Thakor
After the top and middle order struggled, Alana King and Saima Thakor played vital cameos. Alana smashed a six and a four off Deandra Dottin, while Saima edged, reverse-swept, and slammed three boundaries in the final over.
Although Saima was run out on the last ball, her quick runs helped UP Warriorz cross the 140-run mark.
Gujarat Giants in Control of the Chase?
With 143 being the lowest total of WPL 2025 so far, Gujarat Giants will be confident of chasing it down. However, UP Warriorz still have top-ranked spinner Sophie Ecclestone, along with Deepti Sharma and Alana King, who can make things difficult for the Giants.
