WPL 2025: Why Is Shreyanka Patil Not Playing Today in RCB vs GG Match?

Shreyanka Patil has ruled out of the WPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a major setback as their star spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 due to injury concerns. The 22-year-old, who won the Purple Cap in WPL 2024, was expected to be a key player for RCB this season. However, her absence in the match against Gujarat Giants (GG) on February 14 at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, raised concerns about her availability.

Injury Concerns for Shreyanka Patil

Although Shreyanka featured in RCB’s promotional videos before the tournament, she did not take the field in their opening match. Later, she shared a cryptic post on social media, hinting that all was not well.

The off-spinner has been battling injuries for some time. She sustained a finger injury last season, which forced her to miss a few WPL matches. Later, she suffered another injury during the Women’s Asia Cup clash against Pakistan, ruling her out of the remainder of the tournament.

Although she returned to action in the Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, she missed India’s home series against Ireland and West Indies. With the ODI World Cup scheduled later this year, she is now racing against time to regain full fitness.

RCB’s Spin Troubles Continue

RCB’s spin department has taken a big hit, as Sophie Molineux, Asha Sobhana, and Shreyanka Patil are all sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Kate Cross and New Zealand’s World Cup-winning captain Sophie Devine also withdrew from the tournament.

To strengthen their squad, RCB has brought in all-rounder Sneh Rana, who had gone unsold in last year’s WPL auction after being released by Gujarat Giants. She has been training with the team for the last three to four days.
