IPL 2021: The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, which was being played behind the closed door has been postponed after a number of players found Covid-19 positive.
Earlier on Monday, KKR mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier found positive for the deadly virus, leading the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore to be rescheduled. Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a CSK travel team support staff member are among those who have tested positive for the virus.
However, on Tuesday Wriddhiman Saha and Amit Mishra also found positive for Covid-19 and later BCCI finally decided to postpone the cash-rich league.
“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” BCCI said in a release.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind.”
