‘You Never Act as Captain for Long in Pakistan Cricket’ – Nasser Hussain Takes A Dig At Babar Azam
Babar Azam-led Pakistan suffered 23-runs defeat against England in the 2nd T20I.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain raised eyebrows regarding Pakistan’s recent trends of short-lived retirements and captaincy changes. His comments came during the second T20 match between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston.
Nasser Hussain specifically pointed towards Mohammad Amir’s return to international cricket after a previous retirement announcement. Imad Wasim also returned after announcing his retirement.
Additionally, Babar Azam, who stepped down from the all-format captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team following the ODI World Cup, 2023, was recently reappointed as the white ball captain of Pakistan.
Nasser Hussain’s remarks hinted at a lack of long-term commitment within Pakistan cricket. Here’s what the ex-England captain said:
“In Pakistan cricket, you’re never retired for too long, you never act as a captain for long either.”
The first T20I between England and Pakistan was washed out while in the second match, the hosts outsmarted Pakistan by 23 runs to take a 1–0 lead in the four-match T20 series.
