ENG vs IND: August 16, 2021. Mark this date. This is the day when India defeated England at their own den and that too at the ‘Home Of Cricket’. Virat Kohli-led team India crushed the English side at the Lords Cricket Ground in London to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.
India wrapped up England’s second innings for 120 to register the massive 151 runs victory at Lord’s. Mohammed Siraj was the show stealer in the fourth innings as he took a stunning four-wicket haul and conceded only 32 runs.
However, the hopes of taking away the match from Englishmen were first given by India’s tailenders or can say India’s lower batting order – Mohammed Shami (56 not out) and Jasprit Bumrah (34 not out). The duo made their highest individual Test scores and shared an unbroken 89-run stand before skipper Virat Kohli declared the innings on 298/8, offering England 272 runs to chase.
After impressing with the bat, the duo went on to surprise the cricket world with their brilliant bowling skills, having picked up the wickets of Rory Burns and Dom Sibley for ducks. Later, Bumrah gave another massive blow to England, dismissing their main man Joe Root, who scored an unbeaten 180 in the first innings.

India defeated England by 151 runs in the second Test to register only their third win at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Earlier, India won the Test series at Lord’s under Kapil Dev (1986) and MS Dhoni (2014). With this, Virat Kohli became the third captain to seal victory at the ‘Home Of Cricket’.
Well, that’s not the only feather Kohli added to his cap on Monday. Following the mega victory at the iconic venue, Kohli has also become the fourth-most successful captain in Test history. Kohli overtook former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd with his 37th Test win and is now only behind Graeme Smith (53 wins), Ricky Ponting (48 wins), and Steve Waugh (41 wins).

2. KL Rahul Gets His Name On Honours Board At Lord’s
KL Rahul, who wasn’t even in contention to play the match in the series, smashed a sensational ton in the first innings and made sure to register his name at Lord’s honour’s board with his magnificent ton.
After being asked to bat first by England skipper Joe Root, Team India got off to a brilliant start in the Lord’s Test. The duo, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put up a magnificent partnership of 126 runs for the opening wicket. While Sharma missed reaching his century after losing his wicket for 83 runs, Rahul smashed a stunning hundred and etched his name on the honours board. Overall, he scored 129 off 250 balls to help India post 364 runs on the board in India’s first innings.
With this, KL Rahul also became only the 10th Indian to smash a hundred at the ‘Home Of Cricket’.

3. Highest Fourth-Wicket Partnership For India At Lord’s
In India’s second innings, when KL Rahul was gone, Rohit Sharma was gone, and gone was Virat Kohli, the Indian vice-captain Rahane and Pujara showed their grittiness.
When Kohli was dismissed, India were having just 18 runs lead. Rahane (61 off 146) and Pujara (45 off 206) stepped up and batted for the whole of the second session without throwing their wicket. It wasn’t their runs, which mattered at that time, it was the overs that they ate.
In the third session, they kept targeting loose balls and registered the first-ever century partnership for the fourth wicket at Lord’s. It is also the highest fourth-wicket partnership for India at Lord’s.
4. James Anderson – Oldest Pacer With Test Five-For In Last 70 Years
The English pacer, James Anderson, popularly known as ‘King of Swing’ has proved that age is just a number when it comes to effort and potential. At the age when many cricketers and players look for their retirement or witness their downfall, Anderson stepped out as an exception.
Anderson grabbed the limelight in the first innings of Lord’s Test when he registered his 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Following that five-wicket haul, the 39-year-old became the oldest pacer with a five-for in Tests in the last 70 years.
South Africa’s Geoff Chubb holds the record of being the oldest to pick 5 wicket-haul in a Test inning, a milestone he achieved against England in Manchester in 1951 at the age of 40 years and 86 days.
With this five-wicket haul, Anderson also left Ravichandran Ashwin behind in the list of most fifers in red-ball cricket.
5. All Wickets Have Been Taken By Pacers
Well, yes! You read it right. All the wickets at Lord’s were taken by pacers for team India. This is only the second time in the history of Indian cricket when all the wickets in a match have been taken by the pacers. The last time all the wickets were taken by Indian pacers was at Johannesburg in 2018.
Talking about the Lord’s Test, Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with eight wickets followed by Ishant Sharma, who took five. Jasprit Bumrah finished with three wickets while Mohammed Shami took as many as three wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, who was the only spinner playing at Lord’s for team India ended with no scalps under his belt however, caught Mark Wood as a run-out.
