IND vs AUS: Rishabh Pant Notches up 1000 Test Runs, Breaks MS Dhoni’s Record

Rishabh Pant on Tuesday became the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to score 1000 runs in Test cricket, surpassing former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Rishabh Pant, on Tuesday, touched another milestone as he broke former India captain MS Dhoni’s record and became the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to score 1000 Test runs during the ongoing final Test vs Australia at the Gabba.

Rishabh Pant took 27 innings to reach the feat, while the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni took 34 innings to reach the milestone. The other Indian wicketkeepers who have 1000-plus Test runs under their belt are Farokh Engineer, who took 36 innings to reach the milestone, Wriddhiman Saha who took 37 innings to reach the feat, Nayan Mongia who took 39 innings, Syed Kirmani in 45 innings and Kiran More in 50 innings.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock holds the record for being the all-time fastest to complete 1000 runs. He took only 21 innings to achieve the feat. However, Indian keepers do not features in the top five of this elite list, which also features Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal (22 innings), England’s Jonny Bairstow (22 innings), Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara (23 innings) and South Africa’s AB de Villiers (23 innings).

In the Sydney Test, Rishabh Pant almost helped India pull off an improbable win as he blasted 97 which included 12 fours and three sixes. However, with his dismissal on 97, Rishabh Pant missed out on a chance to score his second century against Australia and his 2nd at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.

During the first innings of the Brisbane Test, he was dismissed for 23 as he missed out on a chance for 12 consecutive 25+ scores for a player in Tests in Australia.
