Kolkata Knight Riders beat Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in the opening contest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Kolkata Knight Riders started their IPL 2022 campaign on a victorious note as they defeated the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in the opening match of IPL 2022. It was a complete one-sided contest despite MS Dhoni producing a vintage Thala knock and smashing a fifty to take CSK to a respectable total.

How Did CSK vs KKR Pan Out?

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, CSK looked in huge trouble before Ravindra Jadeja (26 off 28) and MS Dhoni (50 off 38) helped them to get to 131/5 at the end of the 20 overs.

KKR, in reply, chased down the target with nine balls remaining. Ajinkya Rahane (44 off 34) and Venkatesh Iyer (16 off 16) made sure they got off to a decent start. Nitish Rana (21 off 17) made things easy for KKR as Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings went on to grab an easy win for their side.

After being welcomed to iconic Wankhede Stadium by loud “Dhoni, Dhoni” chants, on Saturday, MS Dhoni rolled back the years and showed glimpses of his vintage self with the bat as he went on to smash 38-ball 50 to take his side to a respectable score of 131.

Following his 24th IPL fifty, Dhoni finally ended a 2-year-long wait for a half-century in the lucrative tournament.

According to statistician Kausthub Gudipati, MS Dhoni, following his fifty on Saturday, became the oldest player to score an IPL half-century.

Dhoni was 40 years and 262 days old on March 26. Before him, the record belonged to Rahul Dravid, who scored a fifty against Deccan Chargers in 2013 when he was 40 years and 116 days old. Sachin Tendulkar is third in the tally, as he smashed a fifty against Delhi Capitals in 2013 at the age of 39 years and 362 days.
