KKR vs MI IPL 2021: Andre Russell Record Best Bowling Figures Versus Mumbai Indians; Achieves 3 Huge Milestones
Coming to bowl in the 18th over of the game, Russell dismissed both Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen before picking the wicket of Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar in the final over to complete his first five-wicket haul in IPL career.

The fifth match of the Indian Premier League is being played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Earlier in the match, Kolkata won the toss and opted to field first. However, the decision of KKR’s captain seems going in favor of them, all thanks to their West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell, who picked his maiden 5 wicket haul against the five-times champion Mumbai Indians.
No doubt, Mumbai Indians boasts of daunting death-over batting numbers over the last few seasons, but this season has been quite different for them. Undoubtedly, they have got a great start in both of their matches they played but their middle order and lower middle seems struggling this year.
On April 9 it was RCB’s Harshal Patel who knocked down Mumbai’s batting lineup to record the first-ever five-wicket haul against the franchise and now Andre Russell achieved a same feat against same opponent.
Coming to bowl in the 18th over of the game, Russell dismissed both Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen before picking the wicket of Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar in the final over to complete his first five-wicket haul in IPL career.
5 for 15 is now the best figure by a bowler against Mumbai Indians surpassing Harshal’s 5 for 27 picked at the same venue. The figure is also the best figure recorded at the venue and also the best for Kolkata Knight Riders, going past Sunil Narine’s 5/19 recorded back in 2012.
Russell credited ‘behind the scenes hard work’ for his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket, saying that he was happy to restrict the formidable Mumbai Indians to 152. Russell pointed out that bowling against Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard is always difficult and he was happy to dismiss them.
“I have been working very hard behind the scenes, taking the responsibility. There’s a possibility of going for runs (in the death over), but there’s always a chance to take wickets. I always keep stretching in the field and jogging around, you got to be ready in the 18th over. Bowling against Hardik and Pollard is always a difficult thing, happy we could restrict them. It’s always good to get Polly (Pollard) out early, we all know what he can do,” said Russell at the end of the innings.
Russell’s heroics helped Kolkata Knight Riders restrict Mumbai to 152 runs.
(Inshort)Russell has achieved these 3 records in 6th match of the IPL.
- Andre Russell becomes the first bowler in the IPL history to take a fifer in just 2 overs.
- Andre Russell now holds the best bowling figures record for KKR in the IPL surpassing 5/19 of Sunil Narine.
- Andre Russell has picked a fifer against Mumbai Indians. He becomes the second bowler after Harshal Patel to take a fifer against MI in the IPL.
