ODI World Cup 2023: David Warner Matches Sachin Tendulkar’s World Cup Century Record, Nears Rohit Sharma’s Record
David Warner played an innings of 104 runs against Netherlands in World Cup 2023 clash
After his phenomenal 163-run performance against Pakistan last week, Warner continued to shine by hitting another sensational century in the tournament, this time against Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, thereby creating two big World Cup records.
Following the early dismissal of opener Mitchell Marsh, Warner joined forces with Steve Smith in a breathtaking batting display, as they put on a 132-run partnership.
Later, Warner teamed up with Marnus Labuschagne for an 88-run stand, during which he played second fiddle to Labuschagne. It was within this partnership that Warner reached a century in mere 99 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and three sixes.
Warner’s knock of 104 off 93 balls propelled him past the legendary Ricky Ponting, making him the record-holder for the most centuries by an Australian player in the World Cup.
With a total of six centuries, including two in this edition of the event, he now shares the second spot in the all-time list with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, trailing just one behind India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who has seven centuries.
David Warner and Glenn Maxwell’s centuries propelled Australia to a final total of 399 for eight, marking their second-highest score in a World Cup inning, just behind their record of 417/6 against Afghanistan in Perth during the 2015 World Cup.
