AFG vs AUS: [Watch] Unplayable! Spencer Johnson’s Lethal Yorker Sends Rahmanullah Gurbaz Packing for a Duck

Spencer Johnson bowled a stunning yorker to dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck.

Australia’s left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson delivered a dream start for his team in the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Afghanistan at Lahore on Friday, February 28. The fast bowler sent Rahmanullah Gurbaz back for a five-ball duck with a sensational yorker in the very first over.

Johnson bowled a delivery that had shades of Mitchell Starc—swinging in late, sneaking through the gap between bat and pad, and crashing into the off-stump. Gurbaz had no answer to the searing yorker, and Afghanistan lost their first wicket without scoring a run. The Australian players erupted in celebration as Johnson pumped his fists after striking early.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has had a tough time with the bat in the Champions Trophy 2025. Before this match, he managed just 10 and 6 against South Africa and England, respectively. This duck against Australia marked his third consecutive failure in the tournament. His form has dipped sharply after scoring 110 in a warm-up game against New Zealand.

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first in this crucial encounter. The Asian side is still in the hunt for a semifinal spot, having pulled off a thrilling eight-run win over England in their previous game. In that match, Ibrahim Zadran scored a remarkable 177, while Azmatullah Omarzai took a five-wicket haul in a last-over thriller. However, they had suffered a heavy 107-run defeat against South Africa in their tournament opener.

Speaking at the toss, Shahidi said:

“We were happy with the performance in our last game. We have made plans against Australia and hopefully, we can rectify the mistakes we made against England. We are going with the same team.”

Australia, led by Steve Smith, started their Champions Trophy campaign with a record chase against England, winning by five wickets. Their second game against South Africa was washed out due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing a point.

The Aussies are without their regular captain Pat Cummins and pacer Josh Hazlewood, who are injured. Mitchell Starc is also unavailable for the tournament.
