IND vs BAN: [Watch] Rohit Sharma’s Blunder Costs Axar Patel a Historic Hat-Trick in Champions Trophy 2025

Axar Patel’s hat-trick chance slips away as Rohit Sharma fumbles an easy catch.

Axar Patel came agonizingly close to becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in an ICC Champions Trophy match. However, a costly drop by Rohit Sharma denied him the historic moment during India’s match against Bangladesh in Dubai.

Rohit Sharma’s Costly Drop

The dramatic moment unfolded in the ninth over when Axar was on fire, having already dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in consecutive deliveries. With history on the line, Axar bowled another sharp delivery to Jaker Ali. The ball spun and took an outside edge, flying straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip.

It was a straightforward catch, and Rohit barely had to move. However, he misjudged the pace of the ball, and it slipped through his fingers, landing on the turf. The Indian captain immediately realized his mistake, slamming his hand on the ground in frustration. Axar, who had already turned away in celebration, was left stunned as the opportunity slipped away.

India’s Strong Start Despite the Missed Hat-Trick

Despite the dropped catch, India started brilliantly with the ball. After Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat, Mohammed Shami set the tone with two early wickets. Harshit Rana added another, before Axar Patel struck twice in the same over to push Bangladesh onto the back foot.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh is struggling at 62/5 in 15 overs, with India maintaining firm control over the match.
