David Warner Not Among Cricket’s Greats, Says John Buchanan
According to John Buchanan, David Warner doesn't qualify as one of the 'greats of the game.
John Buchanan expressed his view that David Warner doesn’t qualify as one of the ‘greats of the game,’ citing legends like Don Bradman, Glenn McGrath, and Shane Warne as examples.
Despite his earlier comments, Buchanan showered praise on the 37-year-old Warner, acknowledging his consistent performance across formats for Australia during the past 15 years.
Here’s what John Buchanan said:
“I think he’s certainly performed exceptionally well throughout this career, he sits on 8000+ runs, he’s played over 100 Test matches, over 160 ODIs and nearly 100 T20s. On performance base, he’s right up there.”
“But greats of the game, in my opinion, are people that really do and have done something exceptional that others just can’t match, so, therefore, you automatically go to the Bradmans, McGraths, Warnes, they’re the greats in my opinion. Others come close, but are just not in that category and I don’t see Warner in that category.”
Warner finished his farewell series as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 299 runs in 3 matches with an average of 49.83 and a strike rate of 65.28. His highest score of 164 occurred in the first innings of the Perth Test, a match won by Australia with a margin of 360 runs.
