Dot Balls Display Green Tree Symbols During KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 Clash: Here’s Why

Here’s the reason behind green trees replacing dot ball on the scoreboard during IPL 2024 qualifier match between SRH and KKR.

Sharp-eyed viewers of the high-pressure IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might have noticed a unique change on the scoreboard. Instead of the customary red dots for dot balls bowled, a tiny green tree symbol took its place.

This change is part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) commendable green initiative, in partnership with the Tata Group. The initiative aims to plant a staggering 500 trees for every dot ball bowled throughout the four playoff games and the final.

This eco-conscious effort isn’t new. During the 2023 IPL playoffs, a similar initiative saw 42,000 saplings planted thanks to the 84 dot balls bowled in the Qualifier 1 match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle had previously explained this initiative during the 2023 playoffs, crediting the BCCI’s collaboration with the Tata Group to promote large-scale tree planting.

This brilliant concept leverages the immense popularity of cricket to create a positive environmental impact. With every dot ball bowled, a step is taken towards a greener future.
