Hardik Pandya to replace Rohit Sharma as T20I captain of India: Report

Hardik Pandya guided Gujarat Titans to IPL glory by leading from the front.

India’s T20 squad will undergo a major transition in the next 24 months with senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin shifting their focus to the other two formats of the game.

As per a report in PTI, the Indian management is looking at the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the leadership role in the shortest format. The Baroda cricketer made a case for himself following his success in IPL.

Later, he led Team India on the Ireland tour and did a brilliant job there. He is also appointed as the captain of the team for the upcoming New Zealand tour, with Rishabh Pant named as his deputy.

Earlier, the former India captain and batting legend, Gavaskar predicted Hardik Pandya to be the next captain of the Indian T20I team, stating that he has already won an IPL season.

“Having won the Indian Premier League on his first assignment as the captain, they would have marked Hardik Pandya out as the next captain,” Gavaskar said during an interaction with Star Sports.

“Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be some retirements, you never know. Players will be giving it a lot of thought.”

“There are several players in their mid-30s who will be reconsidering their position in the Indian T20I team,” Gavaskar said.
