ICC World Cup 2023: Ishan Kishan to Replace Shubman Gill Against Australia

Ishan Kishan is likely to replace Shubman Gill against Australia.

India has suffered a massive blow ahead of their opening match against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 as their in-form opener Shubman Gill has reportedly tested positive for dengue and could miss the game on Sunday, October 8.

The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring him, and they have scheduled another round of tests for Friday, October 6. A call is expected to be taken on Gill after the test, but currently, it seems like the star batter will miss the opening match against Australia on Sunday in Chennai.

Gill’s ODI cricket journey in 2023 has been nothing short of exceptional. He has scored 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03 in 20 ODIs so far, and is currently the leading run-scorer in this format this year.

Who Will Replace Shubman Gill Against Australia?

The pressing question now is, who will step in as an opener if Shubman Gill doesn’t recover in time for the match against Australia in Chennai? According to reports, it’s likely that Ishan Kishan will partner with Rohit Sharma if Gill remains unavailable.

Kishan has been in exceptional form recently in the middle-order for India, as evidenced by his breathtaking knock of 82 runs off 81 balls against Pakistan during the Asia Cup, which proved crucial for team India’s victory. It will be interesting to see his transition into the opening position and how he adapts to this new role.
