ICC World Cup 2023: Marcus Stoinis Expected to Sit Out World Cup Opener Against India – Report
Marcus Stoinis’ availability for their World Cup opener against India is doubtful
Ahead of India vs. Australia ICC World Cup 2023 match, the Men in Yellow have been dealt a huge blow as their star all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, has been ruled out of the opening game against India due to a hamstring injury.
On being asked about Marcus Stoinis’ availability for their World Cup opener against India, Cummins said:
“We’ll announce a team tomorrow at the toss. Stoinis, yeah, still touch and go. He’s going to have a run out this afternoon, but probably up against it, he’s got to jump through a few hoops. So, yeah, we’ll see.”
Should Marcus Stoinis not attain match fitness for the India game, Cameron Green may make his World Cup debut against India. Australia’s 15-member squad also includes another injured player, as Travis Head is ruled out for at least the first half of the World Cup due to a fractured hand suffered during last month’s ODI series against Australia.
Australia Squad: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Alex Carey(w), Pat Cummins(c), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis.
