ICC World Cup 2023: [Watch] Joe Root Unleashes 80-Meter Reverse Scoop Six Against Trent Boult in ENG vs NZ
Joe Root rescued England's innings following early wickets.
The eagerly-awaited ICC World Cup 2023 has kicked off, with the opening match taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the current champions, England, face off against New Zealand, the runners-up from the last edition.
Having won the toss, New Zealand elected to field first. England found themselves in big trouble after losing early wickets and were struggling at 64/2. It was then that Joe Root, batting at number three, took the responsibility of anchoring England’s innings, even as wickets continued to fall at the other end.
Root, celebrated for his elegant stroke play, has introduced a fresh shot into his arsenal, and he’s grown fond of employing it regularly – a reverse sweep with an open stance, and he put on his mastery of it yet again by elegantly sweeping the ball off Trent Boult’s delivery.
It all happened in the 12th over of England’s innings when Trent Boult delivered a full, in-swinging delivery, and Joe Root, with impeccable timing, hammered the ball over the wicketkeeper for a stunning 80-meter six. The fans were left astounded by this remarkable display of skill.
