IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill Breaks Virat Kohli’s Massive Record In ODIs

Shubman Gill went past Virat Kohli's record of 283 runs, which is most by an Indian in three-match series.

Shubman Gill, who has been in stellar form in ODIs recently, achieved yet another milestone during the third One-Day International match against New Zealand in Indore on Tuesday, January 24th.

The opening batter delivered a magnificent performance, scoring 112 runs off 78 balls with an impressive strike rate of 143.59. His belligerent knock was studded with 13 boundaries and 5 sixes.

With this, Gill shattered Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a bilateral ODI series consisting of three matches. Before the match, Kohli held the record for most runs by an Indian in a three-match ODI bilateral series.

The former India skipper scored 283 runs against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded series in 2023, where Kohli played a 166 runs knock in the 3rd ODI. Gill now has 360 runs in a three-match ODI series.

Notably, it was second century in the ongoing series as he clobbered a sensational double hundred in the series opener against New Zealand. This performance by Gill is a testament to his skill and consistency as a batter.

Kohli had achieved the feat only in the last ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he scored two hundreds in three matches – 113, 4, 166. Gill has one equalled Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the elite list for most runs in a 3-match bilateral series.

As for the match, Shubamb Gill and Rohit Sharma provided a stellar start to India, having clobbered 212 runs from 161 balls. The Indian captain also ended his ODI century drought, smacking a sensational hundred. Shubman Gill was eventually dismissed for 112 runs off 78 balls by Blair Tickner.
