IND vs WI: Ashwin-Jadeja Equal Kumble-Harbhajan Singh’s 500 Test Wickets Together Feat
R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja achieved a combined total of 500 wickets in their 49 Tests.
The testimonies of all opposition teams that have faced India in Test cricket in the current era echo a common sentiment: Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja form a spine-chilling spinning duo.
These two spin wizards have made life miserable for batters in the subcontinent and have also tasted success in overseas Test matches.
On Day 4 of the second and final Test in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Ashwin and Jadeja achieved a huge milestone, becoming only the second pair of Indian bowlers to claim 500 or more wickets.
During the tense final session, on Sunday (July 23), Ashwin claimed two wickets in West Indies’ stiff 365-run chase and hence joined Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in the 500-wicket club as a pair.
Ashwin and Jadeja achieved a combined total of 500 wickets in their 49 Tests together. Ashwin’s contribution stands at 274 wickets, while Jadeja has 226 wickets to his name in these matches.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer has been vocal about the value of bowling alongside Jadeja. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year, Ashwin underlined the positive impact of having a bowling partner like Jadeja at the other end.
“Massive help is an understatement. He’s been in phenomenal form. The way he’s batted, the way he’s bowled and we don’t have to talk about how well he moves in the field. He’s been a fantastic cricketer. I’m so thankful for the fact that I’ve got a partner like him to be bowling alongside me,” Ashwin had said.
