IPL 2024: Jasprit Bumrah Receives All Credit as Mumbai Indians Beat Punjab Kings in Nail-Biter
Jasprit Bumrah picked up three-wicket haul against Punjab Kings.
Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their third win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by edging out Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a thrilling encounter, clinching victory by a narrow margin of nine runs on Thursday, April 18 at Mullanpur.
Putting to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 197 runs on the scoreboard, courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century, and some quick cameos from former captain Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma.
In reply, Mumbai Indians made a sensational start, reducing Punjab Kings to 14 for 4 within the first four overs. The early dismissals included key players like captain Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone, leaving Punjab Kings in a dire situation.
Just when it seemed like Punjab Kings were bottling the game, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma mounted a spirited fightback. While Shashank Singh’s aggressive innings of 41 runs off 25 balls ended with a mistimed shot off Jasprit Bumrah, Ashutosh Sharma continued to battle on.
Ashutosh Sharma appeared to be steering Punjab Kings towards victory with his well-set innings, but his departure on the first delivery of the 18th over, having scored a blazing 61 runs off just 28 balls, shifted the momentum back in favour of Mumbai Indians.
With Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel attempting to finish the game, the pressure mounted in the final over. However, Rabada’s dismissal on the first delivery of the over left Punjab Kings nine runs short of the target, ultimately leading to their defeat.
