IPL 2024 – Match 8, SRH vs MI Match Prediction: Who Will Win Today’s Match?

Sunrisers Hyderabad enters the match following a narrow defeat by just 4 runs against KKR

The 8th match of the IPL 2024 will be played between the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on 27th March, Wednesday.

Sunrisers are coming back to their home ground after losing the first match to KKR in Edens by 4 runs, and Mumbai is also coming off a loss against GT in Ahmedabad.

Heinrich Klaasen was the star with the bat for Hyderabad in their first match. He scored 63 runs off 29 balls, smashing 9 sixes. He played a terrific knock for his team in a run chase of 209 runs, and with the ball, it was T Natarajan who impressed everyone, picking up two early wickets in the powerplay and then a wicket in the death overs, finishing with 3 wickets for 32 runs.

For Mumbai Indians, former skipper Rohit Sharma stepped up with the bat and scored 43 runs off 29 balls for the team, and with the ball, it was Jasprit Bumrah who starred with his 3 wickets.

What To Expect?

Records suggest that batting second here is the ideal option. Out of 71 matches here, 40 have been won by the chasing team, with the average first-innings total being 158. Pacers generally find some swing here at the start, and the pitch also offers some bounce throughout the 40 overs. Cummins and Coetzee will find it fun bowling here.

SRH vs MI Toss Prediction:

Winning the toss and bowling first is the best option here at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. But both teams have lost their first matches while batting second, so it will be interesting to see if teams decide to bat first or second. Although, keeping the dew factor in mind, both teams will look to bowl first.

SRH vs MI Strengths & Weaknesses:

SRH’s Strength:

SRH’s middle order, except for Klaasen, might have failed in the first match, but it is surely the biggest strength of this team. To have two overseas batters in the middle order who play spin well is something every franchise wants. Other than the middle order, SRH also has plenty of pacers in their mix. We saw T Natarajan performing in the first match while Umran waited for his chance. A healthy competition in the pace department of SRH.

SRH’s Weakness:

Death bowling is a huge concern for SRH, especially with Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s death bowling on a decline. Jansen and Cummins are not suited for the death overs. Only Natarajan did well for SRH in the first match while bowling in the death overs. SRH desperately needs Bhuvi to do well in the death bowling.

MI’s Strength:

MI’s strength is their pacers. With the return of Bumrah and the addition of Gerald Coetzee, this team’s pace department has become stronger. They have also added U-19 sensation Kwena Maphaka to their team along with Nuwan Thushara, who recently took a hattrick in a T20I against Bangladesh. MI has also got some strength in their all-rounders with their captain Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Nabi, and Romario Shepherd.

MI’s Weakness:

MI missed Surya Kumar Yadav in the first match, and they will continue to miss his services for some more time due to his injury. Tilak Verma has also struggled lately, Ishan Kishan is returning from a long break, and Hardik Pandya is also coming back to competitive cricket for the first time since October 2023. MI’s batting on paper looks solid, but when they step out, some loopholes are clearly visible which MI needs to fix soon.

Conclusion:

SRH is quite dependent on their overseas players and on Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They will need their skipper to take up the tougher job for his team, and the skipper will also be hoping for some great performances by his young players who have the potential to succeed.

MI, on the other hand, needs Ishan, Hardik, and Tilak to be in their best form, but the good thing for them is that the experienced duo of Rohit and Bumrah are in top form.

Mumbai has dominated Hyderabad not only away but also in their home ground. The last time SRH beat Mumbai in Hyderabad was back in IPL 2018. MI can be expected to beat SRH again, but a lot has changed for MI now and for SRH too. We can expect a cracker of a match between these two sides.
