IPL 2024: Sam Curran Expresses Frustration Over High Scoring Games
Sam Curran said that Cricket is slowly turning into baseball.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 witnessed a record-breaking spectacle at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 27 as Punjab Kings chased down the 262 run target in just 18.2 overs to record the highest ever run-chase in the history of T20 cricket.
Kolkata Knight Riders, after being put in to bat first, set a daunting target of 262 runs. Openers Phillip Salt and Sunil Narine got their side off to a flying start with a 138-run partnership from just 63 balls. The rest of the KKR batting line-up capitalized on the strong platform, ensuring a mammoth total on the board.
However, Punjab Kings had other plans. Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten knock of 108 runs from a mere 48 balls spearheaded their chase. He found able support from Shashank Singh, who smashed an unbeaten 68 runs from just 28 deliveries. The pair’s phenomenal batting display ensured Punjab secured a historic victory.
The match produced a staggering combined total of 523 runs. There have already been a plethora of instances earlier this season where totals of 500+ have been made. Speaking on this, the stand-in captain of Punjab Kings, Sam Curran said that cricket has now become a baseball.
Here’s what Sam Curran said in the post-match conference:
“Cricket is turning into baseball. We have had a few tough weeks. But we hung in there. The way guys train. The confidence and the coaches. The small grounds and the dew. The reviews which might give you an extra ball. We hung in there and managed to chase it down with balls to spare.”
Sam Curran also heaped praises on Jonny Bairstow and Shashank Singh for their extraordinary efforts:
“Pleased for Johnny. What an amazing knock. Shashank Singh has been the find of the tournament for us. Ashutosh as well. Proud of everyone.”
