Jasprit Bumrah to Replace Hardik Pandya As Vice-Captain for Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 – Report
Hardik Pandya has taken on the role of India's T20I captaim while temporarily occupied the vice-captaincy slot in ODIs
In the run-up to the forthcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023, starting October 5th, the role of India’s vice-captaincy for these tournaments might see a competitive clash between star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
While Hardik Pandya has taken on the role of India’s T20I captain, he temporarily occupied the vice-captaincy slot in ODIs alongside captain Rohit Sharma over the past months.
Jasprit Bumrah’s absence due to injury during that period was a contributing factor. However, Bumrah’s return through the Ireland series presents a strong likelihood of him assuming the role of vice-captain on a regular basis.
The senior men’s selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is set to hold a meeting in New Delhi on Monday afternoon. The main focus of the session will be finalizing India’s squad for the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. It’s highly anticipated that Jasprit Bumrah will be announced as the new vice-captain of the team after that meeting.
Notably, both head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma are set to be present at the meeting. While Dravid will be at the venue in Delhi, Rohit is expected to connect virtually through video-conferencing from Mumbai.
