Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Clinch Third IPL Title with Dominant 8-Wicket Win Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
KKR defeated SRH by 8 wickets in the IPL 2024 final
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged triumphant in a one-sided affair, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a massive eight wickets in the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This victory marks KKR’s third IPL trophy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and surprisingly opted to bowl first. This decision proved detrimental as their top order crumbled. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma departed for a duck and two runs, respectively.
A brief partnership between Aiden Markram and Nitish Reddy offered a glimmer of hope, but both soon fell, leaving SRH in disarray. Big-hitters Abdul Samad and Umran Malik failed to spark, while captain Cummins, with 24 runs from 19 balls, became their highest scorer.
Kolkata Knight Riders‘s bowling attack was relentless, with Andre Russell leading the charge with three wickets. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana chipped in with two wickets each, restricting SRH to a meager 113 runs in 18.3 overs.
A Flawless Chase By KKR Sets A Win
KKR’s chase started with a minor blow as Sunil Narine departed early for 6 runs. However, the explosive duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer took center stage.
They stitched together a match-winning partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket, effectively putting the game to bed.
Gurbaz was eventually dismissed LBW by Shahabaz Ahmed in the closing overs, but the target was well within reach. Captain Shreyas Iyer joined Venkatesh Iyer, and the pair comfortably steered KKR home, chasing down the target in just 10 overs.
