LPL to Add Sixth Team; Kane Williamson and David Miller Likely to Join
LPL is set to expand its wings and add sixth team next season.
The fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be played from July 1 to July 21. This cricket tournament follows the popular Indian Premier League (IPL) format, featuring teams competing in a series of matches leading to the playoffs. The playoffs will include Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final.
LPL 2024 Teams
Here are the five teams participating in the 2024 edition of the Lanka Premier League:
- Kandy Falcons
- Dambulla Sixers
- Galle Marvels
- Jaffna Kings
- Colombo Strikers
Format
The tournament will consist of 24 matches, including two qualifiers, one eliminator, and a final. The teams will play in a round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stages.
Venues
The matches will be held at three main stadiums:
- Pallekele International Stadium
- Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium
- R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo (hosting the playoffs)
